Cerdyn Villa B&B, Llanwrtyd Wells replace solid fuel Aga with same style Klover 120 Smart Boiler Cooker
Property Type and Location
Cerdyn Villa was built in 1907. The owners run a charming country Bed and Breakfast in their beautiful semi-detached country cottage on the edge of Llanwrtyd Wells surrounded by idyllic Welsh landscape.
It was heated by an inefficient outdated Rayburn which was dirty, temperamental and 'uncontrollable' The owners wanted to keep the cosy and romantic look but also get the benefits of a modern, automated system. Having seen a Birds' Hill Klover installation at a friends' house they called Nick to talk them through their options.
Birds’ Hill Solution
The Klover Smart 120 combines the beautiful looks and the heating and cooking functions of an Aga with the advantages of an automated system. It fits in the same spot in the communal area for both owners and guests, and it can be programmed in advance to fire up and the heating is thermostatically controlled.
The system is more efficient, cleaner, user friendly and builds an attractive feature for their B&B communal area.
The installation qualified for an interest free loan to pay for the system. The loan is paid by the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme over 7 years, making this a ‘free heating system’ for them.
New Renewable Heating System Benefits
The system is more efficient, cleaner, user friendly and an attractive feature.
By moving away from fossil fuels, John and Berni have significantly reduced their carbon footprint.
They qualified for an interest free loan to pay for the system. The loan is paid by the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme over 7 years, making this a ‘free heating system’ for them.
Some minor adjustment work was needed at the chimney to fit in the new flute but otherwise the Klover Smart 120 was able to use the same pipes and radiators.
Running the System
The system is automated, allowing the owners to programme the time the heat and hot water come on. It is also cleaner and much easier to operate, saving them plenty of time and dirty, hard labour.
The wood pellets are delivered in 10kg bags by Forever Fuels on a pallet to their home once a quarter, and then stored in an outbuilding. The bags of pellets are far cleaner and easier to handle than the coal, substantially reducing the amounts of both work and the dirt.
